Yeah, you know what else is fun about adoption? Adoption and adoptive parents are generally thought of very positively now. However, biological parents and adoptees still get stigmatized. So put your baby up for adoption and society is still going to think of you as irresponsible, self-serving, and ungrateful! And the child is still going to be distrusted and thought of as troublemaker. PERFECT!

[TW: rape culture]

It’s like no matter what, the women* in this picture can’t win. Had sex and got pregnant unexpectedly? Your own damn fault for being a slut. Got pregnant by rape? You sure it was rape? Can’t afford to raise the child? Should have thought about that before having a child you can’t afford. You should give the kid up for adoption. But wait! You’re still irresponsible for not raising your own kid!

Ugh, fuck these guys.

rape culture rape sexual assault trigger warning: rape

For the prison statistic to be true, wouldn't 11% of the male population have to be in prison and raped for it to go from 3% it is currently at for men to the 14% it's at for women..? Would it be possible for that person give citation? I'm a bit confused.

TRIGGER WARNING: rape, prison

I’m really not a math person. Prison rape is something difficult to get truly reliable statistics on. A lot of men there are sure to lie about it. Massive victim blaming, you know? I’m sure that even when you include prison rape statistics, though, the rate of male-victim rape isn’t going to be equal to that of women. And even still, the vast majority of rapists are men either way.

I know this isn't strictly your domain, but I was arguing about misogyny with a couple of guy friends the other day and the topic of rape came up. They retorted with 'men can be raped too', and then it turned into a statistics game. Anyway I was wondering if you - or any of your followers - have ever come across a reliable report on how common male rape is in comparison to female rape? Thank you.

It’s one in five or so for women and one in thirty-three for men. Of course men can be raped as well, but the fact is that the vast majority of rapes are male against female, so it is a crime of discrimination. RAINN is a good source on the topic.

Not sure why I can't reblog your stuff, but, RE: "Pro Life Equals Pro Rape", it should be noted that Republican legislators tried to re-define rape so that women could not abort their attacker's fetus.

Oh yes, this too. Jesus Christ, the GOP is awful.

(And I think you can’t reblog it because it’s a question. You can reblog questions with Missing e, but of course Tumblr’s out to fuck that up. =/)

if you're pro-life you're probably also pro-rape.

Trigger Warning: Rape

Maybe, maybe not. Not all of them, surely. But the ones who think a rape survivor should carry their fetus to term, too—yeah, they’re basically pro-rape. “Pro-life” is pretty disgusting.

Abortion statistics [Trigger warning for rape apologism]

Number of abortions per year: Approximately 42 Million
Number of abortions per day:
Approximately 115,000

Where abortions occur:
83% of all abortions are obtained in developing countries and 17% occur in developed countries.

© Copyright 1996-2008, The Alan Guttmacher Institute. (

Number of abortions per year: 1.37 Million (1996)
Number of abortions per day:
Approximately 3,700

Who’s having abortions (age)?
52% of women obtaining abortions in the U.S. are younger than 25: Women aged 20-24 obtain 32% of all abortions; Teenagers obtain 20% and girls under 15 account for 1.2%.

Who’s having abortions (race)?
While white women obtain 60% of all abortions, their abortion rate is well below that of minority women. Black women are more than 3 times as likely as white women to have an abortion, and Hispanic women are roughly 2 times as likely.

Who’s having abortions (marital status)?
64.4% of all abortions are performed on never-married women; Married women account for 18.4% of all abortions and divorced women obtain 9.4%.

Who’s having abortions (religion)?
Women identifying themselves as Protestants obtain 37.4% of all abortions in the U.S.; Catholic women account for 31.3%, Jewish women account for 1.3%, and women with no religious affiliation obtain 23.7% of all abortions. 18% of all abortions are performed on women who identify themselves as “Born-again/Evangelical”.

Who’s having abortions (income)?
Women with family incomes less than $15,000 obtain 28.7% of all abortions; Women with family incomes between $15,000 and $29,999 obtain 19.5%; Women with family incomes between $30,000 and $59,999 obtain 38.0%; Women with family incomes over $60,000 obtain 13.8%.

Why women have abortions
1% of all abortions occur because of rape or incest; 6% of abortions occur because of potential health problems regarding either the mother or child, and 93% of all abortions occur for social reasons (i.e. the child is unwanted or inconvenient).

At what gestational ages are abortions performed:
52% of all abortions occur before the 9th week of pregnancy, 25% happen between the 9th & 10th week, 12% happen between the 11th and 12th week, 6% happen between the 13th & 15th week, 4% happen between the 16th & 20th week, and 1% of all abortions (16,450/yr.) happen after the 20th week of pregnancy.

Likelihood of abortion:
An estimated 43% of all women will have at least 1 abortion by the time they are 45 years old. 47% of all abortions are performed on women who have had at least one previous abortion.

Abortion coverage:
48% of all abortion facilities provide services after the 12th week of pregnancy. 9 in 10 managed care plans routinely cover abortion or provide limited coverage. About 14% of all abortions in the United States are paid for with public funds, virtually all of which are state funds. 16 states (CA, CT, HI, ED, IL, MA , MD, MD, MN, MT, NJ, NM, NY, OR, VT, WA and WV) pay for abortions for some poor women.

I’m just going to stop you at that rape statistic. It’s bullshit. It’s impossible to know how many abortions are really done out of rape because rape goes vastly underreported. Most statistics about rape, therefore, are unreliable at best. And hell, if just one person is forced to carry a child conceived of rape against their will, it’s one too many.

Also, more than just 52% of all abortions happen before nine weeks. It’s closer to 62%. Whoops. And don’t you try to tell me Guttmacher can’t be trusted to be unbiased. Another of their statistics is used in your very copypasta.

abortion rape culture rape feminism robbery pro-choice anti-choice propaganda

[TW for rape, trivialising rape by comparing choosing to rape to choosing abortion etc]

                                   Personally Opposed, BUT …

Does it make any sense to be personally opposed to armed robbery but believe that armed robbery should be a choice that somebody else gets to make?

Does it make any sense to be personally opposed to rape but believe that rape should be a choice that somebody else gets to make?

Then neither does it make any sense to be personally opposed to abortion but believe that abortion should be a choice that somebody else gets to make.

Yes it does.

The first two points harm someone who is autonomous, has been born, is completely separate and individually alive - they are a person who has feelings, emotional responses, can be traumatised, dreams, thoughts, families, loved ones, desires, awareness, consciousness etc.

Abortion happens to a growing human entity that is none of the above and most importantly, it is living inside someone’s body therefore that person has every right to choose whether it stays in there or not.

Choosing to harm people in the first two examples is a direct abuse of the human right to autonomy.
Making abortion illegal and therefore forcing people into keeping unwanted pregnancies is a direct abuse of that same human right - it is you, pro-lifers, who are to be compared with people such as armed-robbers and rapists.
It is you who have the “we can do something that will negatively affect/harm/kill other people because we disagree with them being able to do what they want with their own bodies” attitude.
It is you who have a “we don’t care if you didn’t consent to that, you’re not allowed to get yourself out of that situation/choose something we don’t agree with” mind frame.

You really thought you could place a uterus-bearer making a certain personal decision regarding reproductive health on par with a rapist? So rich.

What fucking nerve, catholiclifeguard. What fucking nerve.
