The FACTS about the cost of birth control

unfriendlyatheist:

Religious mandates against birth control are:

  • A violation of equal rights for males and females (treating pregnancy like a special condition is treating females unequally, as the vast majority of females have a reproductive system for pregnancy)
  • A violation of the mandates disallowing the government to endorse any particular religion (anti-birth control attitudes are religious)
  • Terribly burdensome and viciously punishing to those who have done nothing but have ovaries and uteruses

think-progress:

  • Oral contraceptives, or “the pill,” can cost $1,210 per year without health insurance.
  • Women of reproductive age spend 68 percent more on out-of-pocket health care costs than do men, in part because of contraceptive costs.
  • Surveys show that nearly one in four women with household incomes of less than $75,000 have put off a doctor’s visit for birth control to save money in the past year.
  • Twenty-nine percent of women report that they have tried to save money by using their method inconsistently.
  • More than half of young adult women say they have not used their method as directed because it was cost-prohibitive.
  • Nearly half of women ages 18–34 with household incomes less than $75,000 report they need to delay or limit their childbearing because of economic hardships they’ve experienced in recent years.

abortion Religion health women women's rights human rights NOT FUCKING COOL
itsthemusicpeople
Although ob-gyns are the most likely to perform abortions, only 4 in 10 do so. Among ob-gyns who do not perform tubal sterilizations or abortions, and among urologists who do not perform vasectomies, the primary reason is moral or religious objections (reported by 59-71 percent).

Not. Cool. Keep your religion off others’ health decisions. If there is any reason whatsoever you would not provide treatment to your patient, then you are a disgrace to your profession.

Taxpayer-Funded 'Crisis Pregnancy Centers' Tell Jewish Woman To Convert To Christianity Or Go To Hell | ThinkProgress

[Image: a looping animated gif of Stephen Colbert in a suit and tie, screaming, “WHAT?!” in shock. End description.]

Oh yeah, how did I forget in my last ask to mention that these fucking places get federal funding?

They’re nothing but religious propaganda machines posing as medical facilities. And here we have federally funded conversion? FUCK. YOU. READ THE FUCKING FIRST AMENDMENT.

"The fundamental question is not whether or not a foetus dying is a good thing, because nobody thinks that, even pro-choice people. It’s whether or not you think it’s right to create a society where people are legally required to use their bodies to preserve the lives of developing foetuses. From a lot of the abortion wank on the internet, you’d think that a foetus developed in a vacuum with one group of people shouting “kill it, it’s worthless!” and the other saying “noooo, but it’s human, let it live!” And if that were the case, the latter would be right. But there is another party involved - the woman whose body it is growing in, who sadly seems to get forgotten in a lot of the debates. Either that or the probable damage to her body and mind caused by unwanted pregnancy is glossed over as trivial."

House to vote on Thursday “Let Women Die” bill

damegreywulf:

From NARAL Pro-Choice America:

“It’s no exaggeration. Rather than tackling our country’s urgent challenges, anti-choice House Speaker John Boehner is leading another attack on women’s freedom and privacy.

The latest bill would allow a hospital to refuse a woman life-saving, emergency abortion care even if she will die without it.

Your lawmaker is set to vote on this bill on Thursday.

The bill, officially named H.R.358, would have a profound impact on women’s access to abortion care. If passed, it also effectively would ban insurance coverage of abortion in the new health-care system, denying abortion coverage to millions of women.

Boehner’s bill is heartless. Women should have the option of choosing a health-insurance plan that covers abortion care. But this bill makes that next to impossible.

And allowing hospitals to refuse to provide abortion care, even when necessary to save a woman’s life, is unconscionable. Can you imagine facing a complication in pregnancy, and being told that your hospital refuses to provide you with abortion care you need to save your life – or the life of a woman you love?

I need you to take action right now. No matter where your lawmaker stands on choice, every single representative needs to hear from his or her constituents right now.

In solidarity,

Nancy Keenan
President, NARAL Pro-Choice America”
